The Mighty Viking

My name is Bodhi.  I am a black Lab.  Perhaps some of you even know me.  I am very popular in Steamboat Springs.  However, in my mind, I am a mighty Viking.  The open water is my vessel.   I am a great warrior who searches the wild rivers, hunting for rocks, sticks and looking for whatever perils float the river.  My pedigree papers may erroneously have me as a black Lab, but they are wrong.  I am the  mighty Viking.

20 miles and lights, too!!

Coal keeps America going.  20 mile coal, located near Hayden, CO takes on an almost holiday theme with the lights on the loading chutes.  Once again, black & white offer the eye many layers and depths to examine.  Taken early one morning, the lights helped accentuate the photograph.  Remember, buy American, buy COAL.

Mustangs in May

Equine markings can be mystical and mysterious.  Look at this fellow!  There is no doubt he stands out in a crowd.  Moffat County, Colorado is the marathon site for the corralling of wild mustangs every spring, usually in May.  Colorado's Highway 40 and MCR 318 from Sandwash Basin turn into the beaten path boulevard for a stampede of manes, tails and cowboys!  We were fortunate to accompany this great western slice of life, and subsequently given the opportunity to come upon the masterfully painted white faced mustang.

"Of all the animals the horse is the best friend of the Indian, for without it he could not go on long journeys. A horse is the Indian's most valuable piece of property. If an Indian wishes to gain something, he promises that if the horse will help him he will paint it with native dye, that all may see that help has come to him through the aid of his horse." ---Brave Buffalo (late 19th century) Teton Sioux medicine man

Mother Nature's Shorthand

If ever there was a preponderance as to the power of nature - in front of you lies the answer.  "S", "Esses"...for spectacular, stupendous, simple, savvy, sophisticated, smooth, silken and spiritual.

Mother Nature does not require bells nor whistles to put on display her harmonious  magic.  An overly abundant dropping of phat snowflakes, a virgin knoll and one adventurous snowboarder deliver the sermon of nature's imagination.

Life delivers messages in quiet ways - we simply need to listen, carefully!!!!

Lilac Lovers

Bursting blooms filling the screen with high hopes of spring.  It is March, and in most cases, the "S" word (aka = Spring) should be just a flip of the calendar.  Alas, we live in Steamboat, and this bloom is in Flagstaff, Arizona. Mother Nature is like Van Gogh, Monet and Michael Angelo.  The intricate details of these daisies, dipped in soft lilac, with a burst of sunshine yellow, whisper their delicate sermons.  Sssh, I think I hear them.

"The horse is God's gift to mankind". ~Arabian Proverb

This Stallion renders all that is chivalrous and knightly.  Brave, yet polite, this fellow offered my wife and I the chance to gaze upon him as he overlooked his hilly domain of rugged sage and scrub oak.

What befalls man, who believes he is dominant over the horse?  We are held captive by the enticing equine elixir, and because of that, we are richer, although never equal, as the day ends.

Speaking of Wood Wisdom

It is said that the age of a tree can be counted in their rings.  If this is true, what would this piece of wood, weathered from outside speak?  Weathered from the elements that nature brings, love sonnets carefully carved on its body, trees whisper.

"It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit."

- Robert Louis Stevenson
